• Ready to start driving?

This is your opportunity to learn how to drive, so you can drive yourself to school or work.

  • For 38 years, SOC has offered two courses: Teen Driver's Education and Adult Drivers’ Education.

    Teen Driver’s Education

A four-week driver's education course for students ages 15-17 to earn their Texas Learner’s Permit. A Texas Learner’s Permit allows new drivers to legally drive, as long as they are with a licensed adult in the passenger seat. Certified driving instructors teach students in:

    • 32 hours of classroom instruction,
    • at least 14 hours behind-the-wheel and in-car observation,
    • fun field trips to local attractions,
    • automobile and tire maintenance,
    • alternative transportation methods and
    • trip planning.

    Adult Driver’s Education

This program is for young adults, ages 18-22. Certified driving instructors lead six hours of classroom instruction and no behind-the-wheel training requirements. Some driving practice to visit local attractions may be provided, if time permits. Participants will also learn proper automobile and tire maintenance, the availability of alternative transportation methods, and how to plan trips using public transportation.
