Requirements for Teen Drivers and Safety Education
-
Vision Screening
Students are required to take a vision exam at Department of Public Safety (DPS). We strongly suggest that the student’s vision be tested prior to arrival for Summer Programs. If the student fails the vision exam at DPS, the parent/guardian will be responsible for making an eye exam appointment during summer programs so the student can complete the course.
If the student wears prescription glasses/contacts, bring them to check in.
-
Identification
The Department of Public Safety requires the following documentation. These must be left with us at TSD as DPS will not accept copies. For identification protection, TSD will lock up these documents for safe-keeping. The documents will be returned to you at the end of Summer Programs.
- Student's ORIGINAL social security card
- Student's ORIGINAL birth certificate
- Student's VALID Texas ID or ORIGINAL school photo ID or VALID passport

The following three required forms will be in your acceptance packet and available at check-in. It will save you time if you fill them out (IN BLACK INK) before you come. However, DO NOT SIGN THEM! Also, that same person must be present with the student at time of check-in.
