Melly Serrano: Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel Storyteller

Bio: My name is Melly Serrano and I have been a Parent-Infant teacher with four years in this field (2007,2008,2009, 2014). In addition, I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades in my eight year teaching career. In 2011, I decided to stay home with my children. I am from a bi-racial hearing family and have personally experienced several educational settings while growing up: oral school, public schools with some other deaf students using Cued Speech and mainstreamed with SEE interpreters before choosing a residential school, Kansas School for the Deaf where I  graduated.  I  graduated from Gallaudet with a BA in Social Work and a Masters in Deaf Education. I  can safely say that I am an Austinite after living in Austin for 11 years. My husband John Anthony and I enjoy being soccer parents to our two children, Natalia, 7 and in 2nd grade and AJ, 6 and in 1st grade. I am a die-hard fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs.
