Some of us are parents of deaf or hard of hearing children. Some are former teachers. Others come from a professional background in vocational rehabilitation or early intervention. All of us share the same passion for supporting students, families, and professionals in deaf education. We share our knowledge and expertise with you because we can relate.

Bobbie Beth Scoggins
Director Bobbie Beth Scoggins, Ed.D brings a wealth of experience in management, advocacy and information-sharing to SOC at TSD. She also brings her expertise in acting as a professional actor- performing in sign language and voice. In her current role as the director, she leads the team towards the ideal that every Texas family who needs resources or services would be reached.

Nicole Beaver
Nicole Beaver brings 15+ years of experience and passion in deaf education to her role as an Online Resources outreach specialist. She brings her expertise to digitalized resources, such as lesson plans, videos, or distance learning classes. As a parent of deaf children and former educator, she knows firsthand the importance of resources being readily available and accessible across the state.

Shelly Bergeron
As the intervention care coordinator, Shelly can relate to families with newly identified children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Having adopted two Deaf children, she works with families to help them feel connected and not alone as they begin a new journey with a child who is deaf or hard of hearing. Shelly provides referrals to family support, language and health resources so parents of newly identified children can build a strong foundation of language and communication.

Lisa Cochran
Lisa Cochran is a multimedia specialist, supporting American Sign Language Storytelling distance learning classes and ASL literacy resources. As the ASL Storytelling program has expanded from four to thirty plus classes, Lisa enjoys interacting with students and seeing their faces light up as they go through an ASL read-aloud of a story.

Mari Hubig
Mari Hubig, M.Ed. is the Birth-3 Outreach Specialist at the Statewide Outreach Center at Texas School for the Deaf. She has been a teacher of the deaf for almost 30 years, and the majority of those years have included work with infants, toddlers, and their families. Currently, Mari works with a variety of LEAs and local and state agencies to bring current research, strategies, and training to professionals working in Early Intervention.

Keena Miller
Outreach Specialist – Communications & Community Relations. Keena is a member of SOC’s and TSD’s communications teams. She works to secure partnerships with community organizations, handles public and media relations, manages campus volunteerism, and leads development activities.

Linda Miller
Online Resource Specialist, Linda Miller, is the mastermind behind teaching resources. She loves creating lesson plans, developing instructional resources and supporting content development. One of her favorite resources is: The Writing Strategies Book: Your Everything Guide to Developing Skilled Writers. This is her go-to guide for writing resources for helping writers, regardless of their level. The strategies are grouped under goals so you can go straight to the section you need.

Julian Moiwai
As SOC’s studio manager, Julian S. Moiwai oversees our studios and supports video productions. Video-based resources present a unique challenge and Julian tackles them with creativity and skill, giving students, families, and professionals across the state of Texas the best resources they deserve.

Rachella Moore
Rachella Moore, Summer Camps and Programs Coordinator, works behind the scene to plan different summer camps and programs for students, from the ages of 3 to 21 years old. She loves meeting campers and seeing their laughing faces. This motivates her to work towards expanding Summer Camps and Programs in different cities across Texas.

Aaron Mowell
Aaron Mowell started at the center 10 years ago when he first joined the Discovery Retreat team in 2010. As a project manager, he enjoys brainstorming ideas and events that will greatly benefit the student population in Texas. It is his goal to offer more events and programs in more locations across Texas.

Jennifer Prigge
As the project manager for Family Services, Jennifer Prigge enjoys seeing families engage with their children and a community that provides support. She first connected to SOC as a professional in a local Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDPSD). Her experiences with RDSPDs, combined with SOC resources, fortifies her belief that all children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families should have access to resources and support without judgment.

Hannah Torres
Hannah Torres describes the center as welcoming, innovative and wide-reaching. In her role as a program specialist, she enjoys seeing campers connecting to deaf and hard of hearing peers for the first time at our Summer Camps and Programs. Hannah’s hope for students who are deaf or hard of hearing is that they can experience the fullness of “just being a kid” without barriers.

Donna Valverde
As one of the center’s outreach specialists, Donna Valverde supports the project or program development and management. She enjoys the creative aspects of her role in marketing, content development, and social media management.

Cindy Weichman
Cindy A Wiechman enjoys connecting people to the right resource or services. As a program specialist, she provides operational support to the team to achieve the center’s goals and objectives. Her mastery in support includes collaboration with the Business and Purchasing office.
