Learning Objectives

Objective 1: After synthesizing information from the book, students will answer reading comprehension questions at a rate of 70% or higher.

Objective 2: Students will learn meanings and signs for new words, the spelling of those words, and use their newly-acquired vocabulary as appropriate.

Objective 3: Students will collaboratively create an informed presentation after researching social media, websites, and books.

Objective 4: Students will respond to questions using evidence from the book.

Objective 5: Students will identify linguistic techniques and tone to create a diary entry as a chosen character.

Objective 6: Students will write and edit text for conversational storytelling.

Objective 7: Students will identify and use elements of a comic strip (thought bubble, panel, captions, etc.).

Objective 8: Students will create and illustrate their own stories using a comic strip format.

Objective 9: Students will apply their knowledge of story elements in a short story.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Internet access and worksheets (included).

Materials needed for final project:

  • Colored pencils, crayons, or markers
  • Drawing paper
  • Pencils
  • Ruler
  • Newspaper comic strips (at least one for each student)
