The Lion and The Mouse (Aesop's Fables)

TEACHER NOTES:

There are additional teacher notes on each slide. Formal and informal assessments can be done by observing group discussions, evaluating student notebooks and/or worksheets.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Students will identify the fable’s story elements by discussing with the class and completing a worksheet.

  • Students will identify the fable’s characteristics by discussing with the class.

  • Students will identify the fable’s theme using text evidence by discussing with the class and writing it down in their reading notebook, or doing an ASL video response.

MATERIALS:

  • “The Lion and the Mouse” slide presentation for the teacher to use with students

  • Story Element Worksheets

  • Unknown Words Worksheet (if you plan to have students read the story in English)

  • Student’s Reading Notebook or iPad (for ASLvideo response)

  • A piece of paper, sticky note, or one index card per student
