Careers in Deaf Education
Deaf Education is part of special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Deaf education professionals serve students who are deaf or hard of hearing by addressing their unique language, instructional, and individual needs in accessible settings. Deaf education professionals have specialized training in order to provide services and support specific to the deaf and hard of hearing student population.
Various roles in deaf education include becoming a teacher, interpreter, teacher’s aide, or administrator. Deaf education professionals follow the same principles and legal responsibilities as stipulated by federal and Texas statutes.
